About
About Me
I’m a software engineer coming up on thirty years of experience programming, and I finally feel like I have something to say. I have written Go, Python, Java, and C++ on the backend, and Vue, React, jQuery, and vanilla JavaScript for browser-based applications.
On the personal side, I consume quite a bit of science fiction in books and audiobooks. I follow space news and events. I get my information through many personal blogs using NetNewsWire, Old Reddit, Bubbles.town, and Hacker News. I am interested in technology, the sciences, research, mathematics, and philosophy. I strongly support open source and am an active user of Debian Linux, KDE, Firefox, Joplin and many other open source applications.
This Blog
I intend to use this as a personal blog to encourage writing practices in my life. This blog is deployed via Forgejo, Podman, and Hugo, and hosted on Cloudflare Pages. The pages are statically generated using Hugo, with a small amount of CSS/JS to support the look and feel. I wrote a custom theme to give the blog its own unique identity.
AI Disclosure
I use AI locally to assist with the technical stack of this blog. As of 2026, I am running Qwen 3.6 35b A3B, 3.6 27B, and Gemma 4 35B A3B. I run these models locally using llama.cpp and llama-swap on my Nvidia 4070 TI 12GB. I am a private person, which is why I run the models locally. I do not wish to share my data with hyperscalers or cloud AIs that have an incentive to train their next generation of models on my personal information. I do wish to share, express, and participate in positive discourse and that is the intent of this blog.
I use local LLMs to help me plan posts and explore ideas, but the writing is my own and is not generated by an AI. I do not use AI to write content; the act of writing and spending time in thought and communication is the point. In this space, I practice connecting the unconscious with the conscious in a coherent manner, such that my words may offer entertainment, possibly interest, and less likely, even value. I may use local AI as a copy editor to give feedback or review grammar at times. This is not a blog intended to be AI slop, Linked Hustle Crap, or bot content for clicks. I believe the small, personal internet is enough for me and for some, but it is probably not for everyone. That’s okay.
